Incorporated in 1987, Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services Ltd. (IL&FS) commenced operations in May 1988. IL&FS was specifically mandated to implement Infrastructure projects on a commercial format.

IL&FS performs the vital task of structuring infrastructure projects on a Public Private Partnership (PPP) framework and taking them to fruition.  IL&FS has been actively engaged in creating and developing the frameworks to enable such commercialization and has emerged as a pioneer and a leader in this field. IL&FS has been able to leverage limited public funds, reduce life cycle cost, induct diverse stakeholders into specific programs, and develop and execute projects across a range of sectors on a sustainable basis. IL&FS has templatized an institutional process from concept to project development, management to capacity building and value realization for its stakeholders. Full range of financial services including leasing, investment banking, corporate finance, project finance, advisory services are provided by IL&FS.

IL&FS has conceptualized, developed and managed projects across a variety of sectors like Roads, Railways, Airports, Ports, Water Supply and Sanitation, Urban Infrastructure, Waste Management, Industrial Area Development and Special Economic Zones, Tourism, Power, Hydro-Power, Telecom, E-governance, Spatial Solutions, IT Enabled Services and Environment as well as Social infrastructure projects.

IL&FS is closely working with a number of multilateral and bilateral agencies in developing infrastructure in the country.
